"On Money by Martin Amis and Why I Think You're An Alcoholic"
AN EXCERPT FROM A BRIE GROWS IN BROOKLYN
"But I grew up with the fear of alcoholism instilled in my heart by my mother, who gave me a shot of whiskey when I was 8- years-old and said to me, “Isn’t that disgusting? You know you’re an alcoholic, right?” It was her belief that given my genetic make-up, even at that young age, the diagnosis was unavoidable.

Her judgement made me judgmental. I judge people all of the time for drinking, and talk about it to the point of nausea. (Just in case you’re wondering, yes, I do think you’re an alcoholic.) It also made me really confused."
